Nyadi-Phidi Hydropower Project (21.4 MW) — Telemetric AWLR Installation & Discharge Measurement of Nyadi River
About the Project
The Nyadi-Phidi Hydropower Project is a 21.4 MW run-of-river scheme located in Marsyangdi Gaupalika, Wards 6 and 7 of Lamjung District, Gandaki Province. The project harnesses the combined flow of the Nyadi and Phidi rivers, utilising a design discharge of 3.6 m³/s from catchments extending to elevations above 3,000 masl. With a gross head of 695.66 m, the project is designed to generate 129.14 GWh of electricity annually. The main intake on Nyadi River is proposed near Jaluchhe village at 2,948 masl, with a secondary intake on Phidi River at 3,014 masl.
North Summit Hydro Limited engaged IES Nepal to install an Automatic Water Level Recorder (AWLR) with satellite-mode telemetry on the Nyadi River and to carry out systematic discharge measurement on both the Nyadi and Phidi rivers to support the Detailed Feasibility Study (DFS) of the project. The measurements capture the hydrological regime at the proposed diversion locations — establishing the design discharge, verifying catchment yield, and providing the observed discharge record required for the DFS hydrological analysis.
Field work was conducted from November 2020 to April 2021, capturing dry-season and early pre-monsoon flow conditions at high-altitude mountain terrain locations in the Marsyangdi sub-basin. The AWLR station was handed over to the client with a real-time data display system and full operation and maintenance services for the monitoring period.
